The City of Dubuque is now hiring lifeguards for the 2023 season. First year lifeguards are paid $15 per hour and returning lifeguards are paid $17 per hour. Lifeguards must be at least 15 years old.

Once hired, the City will provide lifeguard training and certification for free. Lifeguard training includes online coursework and one day of in-person training and testing. In-person training sessions are being held monthly at the Loras College San Jose Swimming Pool (1815 Cox St., Dubuque) from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Sunday, Feb. 19
  • Sunday, March 26
  • Sunday, April 23
Successful completion results in a two year certification in lifeguarding.

"Getting hired and enrolled in a training course now can be helpful for planning ahead before things get busy this spring," said Recreation Supervisor Janna Beau.
