The Dubuque city council recently held a public hearing to discuss a development agreement for The McCoy Group's new business headquarters.

At the Jan. 3 Dubuque city council meeting, the council voted on a resolution that would create a development agreement between the city and the McCoy Group Inc that included Urban Tax Increment revenue grant obligations. City Manager Mike Van Milligen discussed the agreement explaining that the city’s financial director was recommending this partnership. The McCoy Group is proposing a new corporate headquarters near its existing facility, with the new development proposed at 78,370 square feet. The location is 2099 South Park Court. The company will invest approximately $33 million across the entire project, which will result in 18 new high-paying jobs.

During the public hearing, Jim Connely, Director of Marketing for the McCoy group, addressed the council. He started by thanking the council for allowing him to be there as a representative, and for making his first-ever city council meeting a good experience. He also thanked staff members for their support throughout the whole process of the new development.

"Customer demand and organic growth, along with acquisitions, have fueled the need for us to expand our corporate office. As mentioned, we anticipate creating no less than 18 jobs, but we do have the intended adding up to 60 new full-time employees over the next five years, which will increase our total employee count in the corporate office to 280 people. Currently, the company employs 220 full-time employees, along with ten part-time employees at our current corporate office location," Connely said at the meeting. "These new positions, as mentioned, will be designed to provide a better mix for us to serve our customers and enhance the overall operations of our businesses."

The mayor and city council were very excited to support this project. Councilwoman Susan Farber thanked the representative for growing such a strong family company that continued to support the community. Councilman Ric Jones very quickly said he appreciated the rare “no-brainer” agreement that had been put before them. Mayor Brad Cavanagh said he was looking forward to voting in favor of this agreement and was so glad that so many good businesses, McCoy included, were looking to stay and grow in Dubuque.

The McCoy Group started as a family business in Wisconsin and is now a third-generation family company that has expanded across the country. One of their primary focuses remains growing alongside the communities they are in, as well as giving back to those communities through financial and volunteer support. The McCoy Group has a diverse set of businesses including 26 different Freightliner dealerships, which sell heavy and medium duty trucks, along with 16 construction and forestry dealerships that sell John Deere equipment and 40 locations of a bulk transportation division that are housed all over the U.S. and Mexico.
