Loras College announced the receipt of two anonymous donations of $1 million each to support scholarships that directly benefit Loras students with financial need.
The timing of the gifts, which were made by widows of two Loras alumni, is significant as the economic climate continues to challenge students and their families. Both gifts were given in honor of their late husbands who held great fondness for Loras during their lives.
“Loras has a long history of providing a strong faith-based, liberal arts, and career trajectory educational experience for our students,” President Jim Collins said. “As such, our alumni favorably recall and are grateful for their Loras education. These two selfless contributions further demonstrate the gratitude our alumni have for their Loras experience and the impact it made in ensuring a wonderful life. In turn, Loras is grateful to these two wonderful individuals for permitting our students to have the same beneficial experiences.”
Founded in 1839, Loras College is Iowa’s first institution of higher learning and the sixth oldest Catholic college or university in the United States. Throughout its 183-year history, Loras has been an innovator and leader in the delivery of Catholic liberal arts education. To learn more about Loras, visit loras.edu.
