When we read a book, we mostly focus on the words on the page—but what do the materials of the book, from the binding to the paper, have to say? In this presentation, we’ll look at how those materials can be entry points into a world of stories that exist above, beneath, and alongside the primary content of the text. From singing Spanish monks to a prince who color-coded his books by subject, librarian Andrea Martin will share stories about some of the intriguing people and items she’s encountered while cataloging Loras College’s impressive collection of manuscripts and early printed books.
The event will be hosted in the Miller Academic Resource Center third floor on Tuesday, October 25 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
