Dubuque Holding Community Bike Ride to Discuss Complete Streets

The City of Dubuque is inviting residents to a community bike ride on Friday, Sept. 16, for an opportunity to learn about the City’s complete streets policy and bicycle transportation in Dubuque.

The ride will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Bee Branch Creek Greenway Amphitheater (533 Lincoln Ave.) and conclude around 8 p.m. The 5-mile route travels Dubuque’s downtown bike routes with opportunities to rest, hydrate, and discuss the City’s complete streets policy that makes biking more accessible and safer.

Residents without a bike who are still interested in participating can check-out a bike from the Dubuque Bike COOP. The Dubuque Bike Coop asks that those interested in borrowing a bike sign up at www.sustainabledubuque.org/complete-streets, and arrive at the Dubuque Bike Coop at 5 p.m. the day of the ride to receive their bike beforehand.

The City’s complete streets allows pedestrians, cyclists, transit riders, and motorists safe access to getting around Dubuque. Complete streets increase the capacity and efficiency of the road network, reduce traffic congestion, limit greenhouse gas emissions, and improves quality of life by incorporating design that works for multiple modes of transportation. Sidewalks, bike lanes (or wide paved shoulders), comfortable and accessible transit stops, frequent crossing opportunities, accessible pedestrian signals, and more are among the features of a complete street.
