On behalf of the Wartburg Theological Seminary Board of Directors, the WTS community is delighted to share the appointment of Dr. Samantha Gilmore as Assistant Professor of Homiletics. Dr. Gilmore graduated with her Ph.D. in Homiletics from Princeton Seminary in 2022. She has extensive experience teaching students with diverse backgrounds in a variety of institutions. Her areas of academic interest include the intersection between preaching, performance studies and theater; the body as a physical “text;” and fostering vulnerability for greater honesty in preaching through voice training.
Of her new appointment Dr. Gilmore states, “I am thrilled and so grateful to God for the opportunity to join Wartburg’s faculty at such a vibrant time in the life of the seminary! The preaching classroom is one place where all of the theological disciplines come together for the sake of faithful proclamation of the Gospel. For this reason, I especially value the Wartburg faculty’s commitment to collegiality, collaboration, and integration across the theological disciplines. I know that I will have the support of my colleagues as, together, we seek to serve our students faithfully and innovatively for the sake of the church in a changing world.”
Seminary president Rev. Kristin Johnston Largen, Ph.D. says, “I am eager to welcome Dr. Gilmore to our faculty and to the Wartburg Community. I am confident she will greatly enhance the student education and formation that happens at Wartburg Seminary, and that her areas of theological expertise will complement current course offerings in creative and exciting ways.”
Please join us in both welcoming Dr. Gilmore to Wartburg and holding her and her spouse Lance in prayer during this time of transition.
