Dubuque's Historic Preservation Commission to Hold Awards Ceremony

The City of Dubuque’s Historic Preservation Commission will host the 20th Ken Kringle Historic Preservation Awards ceremony Tuesday, May 3, at 6 p.m. in the Five Flags Majestic Theatre.

The award program is named after the late Ken Kringle, known for his involvement with the Historic Preservation Commission as a member and Chairperson, President of the Bluff Street Neighborhood Association, resident of the Cathedral Historic District and member of the Old House Enthusiasts Club.

The award was created to acknowledge the best rehabilitation projects within the City of Dubuque. The 2022 Ken Kringle award winners are:

  • Restoration of a shrine, sculptures, monuments and the Stations of the Cross at Mt. Calvary Cemetery by the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Association and conservator Diego Valez
  • Restoration and adaptive reuse of the Dupaco Voices Building (formerly the Carr Ryder Adams Co.) by Dupaco Credit Union, also recognizing Jeffrey Morton, and Gronen
  • Restoration of the former St. Mary’s Church Stained Glass Windows by Steeple Square at 101 E. 15th St.
  • Rehabilitation and restoration of the private residence at 1100 Main St. by owner Duane Hagerty
  • And recognition of Mike Gibson for Lifetime Achievement to Preservation, following his retirement at the Center for Dubuque History at Loras College.
