Medline launches Month of Service in November

8

Medline Industries, Inc. recently issued the following announcement.

Medline has launched a Month of Service, encouraging and incentivizing the company’s nearly 30,000 employees to participate in organized volunteer activities – in person or virtual – throughout the month of November.

Through the initiative, employees can choose from a list of Medline-organized volunteer events, find a volunteer opportunity through a matching database or on their own, or donate to select organizations. The organized volunteer events allow employees to donate blood, pack life-saving meals, fulfill holiday and other wish lists, and create craft cards for seniors and welcome cards for resettled immigrants and refugees.

Participation in the Month of Service is not mandatory; however, employees who volunteer can earn up to $250 for donation to a charity of their choice through the “Dollars for Doer’s” program. Employees who are making a difference in their communities through volunteerism, fundraising or nonprofit board service can also nominate a charity to receive up to $3,000 through Medline’s Employee Recognition Program.

“These opportunities reflect Medline’s exemplary values and commitment to fostering employee engagement,” said Medline Chief Human Resources Officer Karen Ferraro. “We regularly hear that programs like the Month of Service, which allow employees to choose opportunities that are especially meaningful to them, are among the many reasons why our employees enjoy working at Medline.”

In fact, research supports a likely link between “a culture of of volunteerism in the workplace” and improved “morale, workplace atmosphere and brand perception.”

Medline Social Media Manager Rada Cheremoshnyuk is making cards this month for resettled immigrants and refugees through the Heartland Alliance as part of the Month of Service.

“I remember when I came to America as a political refugee at the age of 12 and people did this for me and my family,” said Cheremoshnyuk, Medline social media manager. “Life really is a full circle, and the opportunity to give back is one of the many reasons that I love working at Medline.”

The Month of Service is part of Medline’s Community Impact program that provides ongoing donations and support to combat disparities in health: the economic and other conditions that influence individual and group disparities in health status and care. The program includes the social and environmental contributions of the 750-employee Medline Service Corps, and the Medline Cares program, created in 2020 to support communities where Medline employees work and live through philanthropy and volunteerism. Despite the pandemic last year, Medline employees logged 3,709 volunteer hours, valued at nearly $106,000, and made 512 unique donations totaling  nearly $48,000.

“Each employee brings their unique skills and hands-on experience to these volunteer opportunities,” said Francesca Olivier, senior director of Medline Corporate Social Responsibility. “We are proud of our outstanding employees and their ongoing efforts on behalf of the people and communities most in need.”

Medline is consistently ranked a top place to work. This month, the company was named to the Chicago Tribune’s 2021 Top Workplaces list for the 11th time. Earlier this year, Medline was named to LinkedIn’s 2021 Top Companies Chicago and  Forbes 2021 America’s Best Employers lists.

The company, the largest privately-held manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies, is hosting more than 60 hiring events throughout the U.S. this fall and winter for a broad range of positions serving the entire continuum of healthcare.
