Loras Choirs Mark Return to Live Performances with Day of the Dead Concert

Loras College issued the following announcement on October 21.

The Loras choirs, in collaboration with Loras Spiritual Life and the Center for Inclusion and Advocacy, will present their first live performance in nearly two years. The performance will celebrate Día de Muertos, the Mexican holiday known as Day of the Dead.

The performance will be held on Friday, October 29, in Christ the King chapel beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The choirs will sing a variety of Mexican and other Latin American music spanning nearly 500 years. The performance will include an ofrendadedicated to the Loras community. In addition, the audience will receive a parting gift to help them celebrate Día de Muertos at home. 

A reception, including pan de muertoand Mexican hot chocolate, will follow the performance. 

The performance is free of charge. Face coverings are required for all in compliance with Loras’ COVID-19 policy. 

“I’m so pleased that the choirs are performing live again this year, and our Día de Muertos concert has such exciting music,” Jeremiah Cawley, DMA, assistant professor of music, said. “It’s great to have so much of the Loras community involved in presenting the concert. It’s going to be a great event!”
