City of Dubuque issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
Dubuque Mayor Roy D. Buol’s “State of the City” for winter 2021 provides an update on the creation of an Equitable Poverty Prevention Plan for Dubuque to reduce, alleviate, and, ultimately, prevent poverty in our community.
“As we envision an eventual return to ‘normalcy,’ it is incumbent upon us to remember lessons learned that will help us to collectively and actively participate in shaping a new and better ‘normal’ for our citizens,” said Buol.
The City hired a consultant in 2019 to assist in the development of the Equitable Poverty Prevention Plan. A project steering committee, drawn from community agencies and non-profits working with people in poverty, and City staff have been working with the consultant over the last year. The extensive research, community engagement, and community planning phases of the plan’s development have now been completed and a draft of the plan will be presented at a City Council work session in January 2021.
