Cities in Dubuque Country are having difficulty finding common ground when it comes to action on mask mandates, social distancing and other measures in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite clear guidance coming from state and federal levels, according to the Telegraph Herald.

Though the White House Coronavirus Task Force has advocated for similar measures, cities around the country are split on whether to issue a county-wide mask mandate. As a result, some cities are voting to take measures into their own hands.

One such example is the City of Asbury, of which Jim Adams is the mayor.

“I am a proponent of masks,” Adams said. “I look at the people who are recommending them, and I see them as impartial and unbiased. They are medical professionals. Based on that, I am just taking it to the next level and having the city try to be proactive. I am just picking up where the supervisors left off.”

This comes as cases continue to rise in the county, state and around the nation. There appears to be no end in sight to the gridlock in Dubuque County over the effectiveness of masks and the willingness of the country to issue guidelines on mask-wearing in public places.
