Gov. Kim Reynolds (R) has issued an order that will limit COVID-19 testing at the Test Iowa clinic to 100 tests a day, CBS 2 Iowa reported.
The city’s news release said that the governor’s order will reduce the testing from 400-550 a day to just 100 tests a day.
Tests will now be offered only from 6 to 7 a.m. Monday through Thursday and testing will stop on those days if 100 tests are reached before 7 a.m.
While the numbers of coronavirus continue to rise, a spokesperson of the governor, Pat Garrett, told CBS 2 Iowa that this is a temporary change as the governor seeks to ensure that “consistency and high quality performance across all Test Iowa sites” is maintained.
"We requested this temporary change to ensure their process is in line with others across the state of Iowa," she said.
The New York Times reported that Iowa had one of the highest rates of new cases, with 232 reported on July 28 and an average of 458 cases per day over the previous week.
