Balltown, which is located in Dubuque County, has been recognized as the first town in Iowa to have every home reply to the 2020 Census, according to KMCH.
Balltown is second in the entire nation with a 100% reply rate. Sherri Sigwarth, Balltown mayor, said their work in getting all of Balltown’s eager citizens to engage began a few months ago. A Census delegate visited the town and spoke during the mayor's meeting where all the Dubuque County mayors report their town's progress.
During the speech, the delegate told the citizens that completing the Census only takes a few minutes. The delegate added that it can be done online at 2020Census.gov.
Residents can also complete the Census by calling 844-330-2020 and speaking to a representative. Sigwarth told KMCH that participating in the Census is critical. Accurate Census numbers help provide resources for communities.
Sigwarth said she realizes it may be easier for a smaller town like Balltown to reach a 100% rate. According to records, Balltown has only 73 residents.
