A Cedar Rapids internet provider that plans to construct residential broadband internet services in Dubuque neighborhoods beginning in Spring 2020 now has partnered with the City of Dubuque to establish a downtown, public internet hotspot for free Wi-Fi.
ImOn Communications’ public internet hotspot tower is at the top of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce building at Main and Third streets, KWWL News 7 reported.
The hotspot will provide free Wi-Fi to the public in the downtown area, according to KWWL.
According to KWWL, the city’s director of Housing and Community Development Alexis Steger said the hope is that the free Wi-Fi will build a bridge across the internet access gap within the city. Steger told KWWL, for example, that classmates will have the possibility of having the same Zoom experiences, allowing them to chat with friends.
ImOn’s plan to construct residential broadband internet services in Dubuque neighborhoods beginning in Spring 2020 is designed to be completed in four or more years, according to its website.
