In the City of Dubuque, utility bills may be higher than normal due to COVID-19 closures.

A release from the city stated that, because employees were working from home, utility bills have not been processed since Tuesday, March 24.

The posting may be delayed by two weeks, according to estimates from the city. Because of this, accounts paid on or after Tuesday, March 24 by drop-in, mail, phone, online, or WaterSmart will have the current month's bill posted on the next month's bill. This will impact about 10,000 residents. Utility customers are asked to pay only what is due for the current month if they already paid last months' bill. As of March 20, disconnection notices and water shut-offs are halted.

The issue is expected to be resolved by the next billing cycle. Also, there will be no late fees applied. Payments will be processed and posted as soon as possible.
