FULL ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of Dubuque Intercultural Facilitation Team will host a four-day workshop on developing strategies and skills for advancing equity and intercultural competence. The workshop, “Equity and Intercultural Competence: Strategies from Self to Systems,” will be held on four Fridays: March 27, April 3, April 24, and May 1, with sessions held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the NICC Town Clock Center at 680 Main St., Dubuque.

This program is designed for individuals working to apply equity-informed decision-making to policy development, practices, programs, and community partnerships. It will feature practical and inclusive strategies addressing interpersonal communication, community engagement, information gathering, evaluation, staff training, and more related to the context participants are working within.

Participants will use an intercultural framework to explore individual, institutional, and systemic challenges and opportunities. The intersection of race, gender, ability, ethnicity, sexual orientation, power, and various identities will be explored. Participants will also practice using the tools they have received to identify dilemmas facing their organizations, develop strategies for addressing issues, and create action items. The workshop is best suited for those working on teams seeking to advance equity and inclusion.

Those interested in participating in the workshop should complete an application and pre-workshop questionnaire which can be found at www.cityofdubuque.org/humanrights. Applications must be submitted by March 24, 2020.

All applications will be reviewed by the facilitators. Workshop capacity is limited to 30 people. Cost to participate in the four-day workshop is $75, which includes meals and training materials. If cost is a barrier to participation, please indicate so on the application form. For more information, contact Organizational Equity Coordinator Collins Eboh at ceboh@cityofdubuque.org or 563-589-4191.
