U.S. Congress members Abby Finkenauer and Cindy Axne went to Chicago in November for a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser at the home of former Playboy CEO Christie Hefner.
The Iowa GOP website noted that both Finkenauer and Axne narrowly won election in pro-Trump districts in the 2018 midterm elections, and that Roll Call recently named Finkenauer one of the 10 most vulnerable House members in the 2020 race.
State Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Marion) has announced her candidacy for Finkenauer’s seat; David Young, who preceded Axne as the U.S. Representative for Iowa's 3rd District, has launched a campaign to retake the seat.
Iowa GOP spokesman Aaron Britt posted a statement about the Democrats’ vulnerability on the GOP website:
“Reps. Axne and Finkenauer know the phony impeachment inquiry is a partisan disaster, but they still sided with party leadership and radical Democrats like AOC over their constituents,” Britt said. “Now they are more vulnerable than ever, so they’re relying on questionable money to bank roll their faltering campaigns. Clearly, they have no interest in representing Iowa values.”
